History of Grama Panchayat
In 1946, the construction of the Chenkulam Power House marked the beginning of widespread settlement in Vellathooval. Before that, the area mainly consisted of cardamom plantations and indigenous tribal settlements. As part of the “Grow More Food” project, land was allotted at five acres each to migrant farmers between 1947 and 1949, with major settlers coming from Meenachil, Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha, and Kothamangalam regions. In 1949, the construction of the Chithirapuram–Vellathooval road and the Ellakkal road improved transportation. During the 1950s, forest areas were gradually converted into agricultural land, and later logging tracks developed into panchayat roads.
